Comment: It is dry now but once it used to fill with water as the river Thames rose and fell with the tide, the 2000 people that lived in the tower had their well... "waste" piped into it. It did a great job of keeping out the enemiesbut was also home to a lot of disease and become very unpleasant at low tide.

View from middle tower * At the very right of the photo is where they used to execute most of the common traitors. * 2048 x 1536 * (1.45MB)

Ravens * These Ravens are a lot bigger in real life and suit the name of messengers of death they have lived in the castle for hundereds of years. It is said that if they were to ever fly away the royal empire would fall. I heard a rumour that they have actually had their wings clipped to prevent that from happening. * 2048 x 1536 * (1.47MB)

Raven 2 * 2048 x 1536 * (1.46MB)

The White Tower 1 * So the story goes, one of the first prisoners at the tower was a French guy. They put him in that tower you see in the photo. He discovered that the barrels of wine they brought him had lengths of rope tied around them. He asked for a great deal of wine during his stay and kept the rope from all the barrels, until he had enough to tie together and make his escape. And escape he did! * 1536 x 2048 * (1.45MB)
